Current roadworks

Below is a list of road roadworks taking place in the Waikato district. Please phone 0800 492 452 to report any road issues which aren't included on this list.

Horotiu

  • Horotiu Road at Park Road intersection, CLOSED – ongoing to June 2024. Construction for new road alignment. Detours in place. Temporary roundabout in place until end of August
  • Park Road at Great South Road intersection, TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN PLACE – Continuing through to August – Temporary roundabout
  • River Road / Lake Road intersection, TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN PLACE – Work starting 26 April through to end of June. New RAB construction.
  • Washer Road, CLOSED to through traffic, between number 9 and approx. 36 - 4 June to end of June, upgrade to the wastewater pipe.

Ngaaruawaahia

  • Great South Road, Ngaaruawaahia, SOUTHBOUND LANE CLOSED between Kelm Road and River Road – ongoing until September. Wastewater pipe installation.
  • Old Taupiri Road, Ngaaruawaahia, at Festival Way. CLOSED – 15 April to mid-July – New roundabout construction.

Onewhero

  • 66 Wairamarama-Onewhero Road,  TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN PLACE  – 29 April to end of June – Slip repair.
  • 239 Onewhero-Tuakau Bridge Road, TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN PLACE – 22 April to end of June – Slip repair.

Pookeno

  • Pioneer Road, Pookeno, INTERSECTION CLOSED, SH1 at the Pookeno end - 18 March to 27 June. Traffic will need to use Mercer end of Pioneer road. Slip removal on SH1. 
  • Pookeno Road / Great South Road INTERSECTION CLOSED - Started and ongoing to October - New roundabout construction.
  • Great South Road, PookenoNORTHBOUND LANE CLOSED from Wellington Street to Ford Street – Started and continuing to October. Pookeno main street upgrade.
  • Helenslee Road, Pookeno, from Hillpark Drive to Munro Road, TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN PLACE - 13 May to 19 July. Watermain extension.
