Waste Minimisation and Management Plan

Our Waste Minimisation and Management Plan sets out what actions we will take to make it easier to do the right thing with our communities waste, increase recycling and reduce waste to landfill.

This includes everything from your weekly rubbish and recycling collection to funding for community initiatives.

Our current Waste Minimisation and Management Plan 2018-2024 will be replaced on 1 July 2025. The new Plan will set out Council’s actions to make it easier to minimise waste, to increase recycling, and to reduce waste to landfill.

We want this plan to work well over the next six years - If an action isn’t in the plan, we can’t allocate funding to it.

The Waste Minimisation Act requires councils to review their waste minimisation and management plans every six years.

In addition to this, the needs of our community changes over time – and so does the world of waste. We need to update our Plan to adapt to these opportunities.

  • Waste Minimisation and Management Plan’s are prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Waste Minimisation Act 2008.
  • Changes to legislation and new strategies from central government need to be considered.
  • Research via waste audits and a waste services review are being referred to for direction.
  • Direction from our community, elected members and business will also help shape the content.
  • The Plan aims to align with Council’s existing plans and strategies, such as the  Climate Response and Resilience Strategy

Absolutely! Consultation will start 28 March 2025 and close 28 April 2025.

We are seeking community feedback – so please get involved!
