Waikato District Council Education and Engagement Officer, Zoey Jackson, has been awarded the Te Tohu Maimoa Award for her exceptional contribution to the well-being of companion animals.
Presented by Companion Animals NZ, the award recognises individuals in New Zealand who have made a significant impact on animal welfare across the country.
Zoey is a passionate advocate for responsible pet ownership in the Waikato district, leading initiatives such as the PUP fund desexing programme and dog safety education programmes in schools.
Zoey also organises fun, creative fundraising events such as the Dirty Dog Challenge, Pink Walks for breast cancer, and Pound Pups Pool Parties.
“I am incredibly honoured to receive the Te Tohu Maimoa award,” says Zoey, “and to be part of such an amazing community of passionate people working for the welfare of animals.”
Zoey also acknowledged the role the wider Animal Control Team have played in supporting her in her role.
Every year, the team helps find homes for over 200 dogs who come into their care unwanted or neglected. Many of these adoptions are facilitated by Zoey herself.
“I’m excited to continue making a difference for our furry friends and spreading the message of responsible dog ownership,” she says.
