Ngaaruawaahia wastewater pipeline replacement
Waikato District Council has partnered with Watercare Waikato to provide high quality public water, wastewater and stormwater services.
The Ngaaruawaahia wastewater network faces challenges due to ageing and undersized pipes that have been in use for decades.
A new Ngaaruawaahia wastewater transmission sewer pipe is replacing a deteriorating pipe in poor condition.
The new pipeline will mitigate material failures, operational issues and improve network performance.
Project update
Construction is well underway within Great South Road. This section started at the Kelm Road junction and will continue to the Waikato River bridge under the traffic-controlled lane closure. Protecting the local environment is of crucial importance to us. To this end, we are working in consultation with the appropriate agencies to minimize the environmental impact.
The installation of a pipeline is a major operation, and we will minimise disruption as much as possible. The pipe is 800mm in diameter and the trench will be approximately 1.5m wide. To lay the pipe our contractors require a lane closure for their vehicles, plant and equipment. At 4.0m deep the ground conditions are proving challenging and trench base stabilisation work is required ahead of the excavation, requiring additional time and effort.
The working area will be secured with traffic management until the reinstatement is complete. The railway tunnel crossing starts in January and once complete, the diversion route will scaled back to a shorter route.
April 2024 - Work is well underway on Great South Road and will continue into October. The Kiwi Rail under-track crossing is complete. Only the chamber construction on each side remains. Work on the 375mm branch sewer in Galbraith street is complete with only reinstatement remains outstanding.
