PR-22241 Buckland Road Recreational Space

The purpose of this project is to develop a recreational space large enough to play rugby or soccer.

Background and Purpose of the Project:

  1. The Council purchased this land in 2020.
  2. Through the Long-Term Plan (LTP) process, the Open Spaces team received approval to transform the area into a multi-use recreation field suitable for various sports.

Project Scope and Future Vision:

  1. The field will be levelled by shifting approximately 9,000m³ of earth.
  2. Stormwater management improvements will include the installation of three soakage trenches, sloped earth drains leading into those trenches, and large earth bunds.
  3. Bollards will be installed along Buckland Road to prevent unauthorized vehicle access while ensuring safe pedestrian entry. A lockable gate will also be placed on the footpath.
  4. A shared footpath will provide access between the field and the playground.
  5. The project is tentatively scheduled for completion by the end of April, though this may be subject to weather conditions.

Project Update

March 2025 - The earthworks movement has started, and the contractor has already compacted and tested the 1st layer of fill.

Partnerships and Community Engagement:

  1. We have actively collaborated with mana whenua, the community board, local councillors, and schools to ensure effective communication and community involvement
  2. The contractor, ECB Group Ltd, provided early notification to surrounding neighbours before commencing work and has fully complied with consent conditions, including dust mitigation, noise control, and temporary traffic management
