Building communities, together

Our district is a thriving hive of activity where people come together to live, work and play. We are in the business of building communities, and this newsletter is a testament to that commitment.

Read more to learn about the launch of Takitini, our new economic development initiative, which embodies the strength that comes from working together. Takitini means ‘many hands’—a fitting name for a district that flourishes through collaboration, shared aspirations, and a collective drive to grow and prosper. Takitini will support businesses grow, attract investment into the district, and celebrate the incredible opportunities our place has to offer. At the heart of the golden triangle, the Waikato district enjoys strong connections to Hamilton, Auckland, and Tauranga, ensuring access to growth and innovation while staying grounded in the values and character that make its communities special.

Connection was on full display at the Tuurangawaewae Regatta, where we showed up in force. Our council competed against more than 20 corporate teams, claiming 6th overall. It was a pleasure to cheer on the crew as they raced alongside Waikato Regional Council, Hamilton City Council and other local government counterparts. We look forward to supporting the regatta in 2026; with our sights firmly set for a podium finish. The regatta is a spectacular showcase of our district’s heritage, natural beauty and community pride.

Events like these highlights what makes our district unique: a place where economic vitality meets cultural celebration, and where our people – residents, businesses and community groups – work together to shape a better future.

Looking ahead, we want to hear from you. From 11 April to 11 May, we’ll be out across the district for our Long-Term Plan (LTP) consultation, seeking your voice on what matters most to you. Join us at events, visit our offices and libraries, check out our website, and let us know what you think. Your input shapes our future, and we can’t wait to hear from you.

Let’s keep that momentum going. Together, we are creating a district that is not just growing, but flourishing.

Ngaa mihi and kind regards

Mayor Jacqui
