Funding can be used for a variety of initiatives, including educational programmes, events, research, data collection, feasibility studies, and social enterprises - all aimed at minimising waste and encouraging long-term behaviour change.
Groups can submit multiple applications if they have multiple project ideas.
With an annual budget of $80,000, the fund is contestable and distributed through one funding round per year. Applicants can apply under two categories:
- Standard Funding: $1,000 – $5,000
- Special Projects: $5,000 – $10,000
All applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis by an independent panel, ensuring that successful projects align with the council’s waste minimisation goals.
Applications are open from Monday, 17 March 2025, and must be submitted by Friday, 18 April 2025. This funding is made possible by the Ministry for the Environment.
