Kia ora koutou,
It’s a privilege to step into the role of Chief Executive at Waikato District Council. Over the past two weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with Mayor Jacqui, our councillors, and many of our dedicated staff. I’ve also attended community board meetings in Tuakau and Raglan, gaining valuable insights into the diverse communities that make this district so unique.
I have been very impressed by the Mayor’s and Councillors passion and vision for the district and the way they are navigating affordability and equity while facing the challenge of growth and the infrastructure investment required. The quality of the staff at Waikato District Council is also very impressive; they are very committed to making the Waikato District the best place possible for our residents and businesses and take that responsibility very seriously.
Waikato District is a place like no other - home to both vibrant rural communities and fast-growing areas on the edges of Hamilton and Auckland. As we look ahead, a key focus is the Long Term Plan (LTP) public consultation, starting at the end of March. Mayor Jacqui and her councillors have been hard at work reviewing and debating the proposals and budgets submitted by staff to ensure every dollar and cent is working efficiently and delivering the best possible services to all our people and places.
This is an important opportunity to work alongside our communities, ensuring we share the right information and have meaningful conversations about our priorities, challenges, and opportunities.
I’m excited about the road ahead and look forward to meeting more of you as we continue shaping the future of our district together.
Ngaa mihi,
Craig Hobbs
Chief Executive, Waikato District Council
