As the kids head back to school and workplaces come alive again, I want to extend a warm welcome back. This year promises to be a significant one for our communities and council as we navigate challenges and seize opportunities together!
Your elected members are hard at work deliberating on the Long-Term Plan (LTP) priorities that will shape our district’s future. We are firmly focused on maintaining service levels and driving efficiency to ensure great value for money for our residents. Your voice in these discussions is crucial as we chart the way forward, so keep an eye out for information on how to make submissions in the coming weeks.
This newsletter also marks a special moment to acknowledge and celebrate Gavin Ion, our Chief Executive, who is leaving us after 21 years of dedicated service. Gavin’s leadership has left an enduring legacy in our district, and we are grateful for his tireless commitment to our communities and council staff. While his official farewell approaches, Gavin will continue his invaluable work on the Local Water Done Well project until June.
Looking ahead, we welcome Craig Hobbs as our new Chief Executive on Monday with a poowhiri, marking the beginning of his fresh perspective as we embrace the growth and potential of our diverse communities.
Finally, as summer continues, I encourage you all to take a moment to enjoy it. Let’s make 2025 a year of action, connection, and shared successes.
Ngaa mihi, kind regards,
Mayor Jacqui
