Change is on the way for how we deliver water services

Change is on its way for how we manage water, in response to Government asking councils across the country to rethink their waters business.

Waikato District councillors will review the formal recommendation on how it will structure water services in the future on Friday 13 December.

Extensive analysis over recent months has focused on the need to get the best outcomes for residents, with Council due to make a decision that will have a massive impact for years to come.

Mayor Jacqui Church highlighted the importance of community feedback on the final decision.

“We'll be sharing background over the coming months about what the waters decision will mean for our district, and really want you to have your say in March next year. It’s quite complex, there’s no doubt about that, but this is a decision that matters, and your feedback matters”.

Council will decide on a preferred option from the design of a joint Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) in partnership with Hamilton City Council or a joint CCO  with Waikato Waters Done Well, a group representing a number of councils in the region to establish a wider-ranging organisation for water services delivery or to continue with an independent approach similar to our current contracted model.
