Three major projects start the summer road repair season

You might want to allow just a few extra minutes if you’re travelling around the west of the district over the next few months. Our teams will be fixing some roadside slips.

Three major slip repair projects will mean a few weeks of stop/go controls in place around Onewhero, Pukekawa and Mercer Ferry Road. As part of our repairs to roads damaged by last year’s severe weather events, these will run from early November and through the summer.

Repairs on Hunt Road, Onewhero, just south of 253 Hunt Road, are likely to start as early as 5 November, scheduled to finish late December. Our contractors reviewed the work programme and found that, if they start asap, they could complete these slips repairs without needing to close the road and still aim to get it done by Christmas.

Waikaretu Valley Road, close to the intersection with Waikaretu Wairamarama Road, will have stop/go management in place for approximately 10 December to 20 December, and then back again from 13 January to 20 February. During the Christmas period, no plant will be left on site, and everything will be left safely but unattended.

The existing road closure on Waikaretu Wairamarama Road lifted this weekend and final construction works will continue under stop-go. These are expected to wrap up in the next week and a half.

Mercer Ferry Road repairs, at around 2km south of the Mercer bridge, will start work around 14 January and are also expected to finish on 20 February.

Details of stop-go restrictions here and at other repair sites over the summer will be shared on our Current Roadworks page.
