Waikato district achieves record community response to Long Term Plan survey

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts and help shape the future of the Waikato district!

Waikato District Council is pleased to announce that nearly 2,000 survey responses were received during the engagement phase of its 2025-2034 Long Term Plan (LTP), making it one of the highest response rates we’ve ever seen. This incredible level of engagement shows the strong connection our community feels to the services and decision that help shape our district.

As one of New Zealand’s top-performing councils, with an AA+ financial rating, we’re dedicated to providing quality services while finding affordable ways to support you. The feedback we received through the survey, which closed on 20 October, covered important areas like roading, waste management, community halls, and libraries.

Waikato District Mayor Jacqui Church shared her gratitude, saying: “Thank you to everyone who participated. Your feedback plays a huge role in helping us keep things running smoothly and ensuring that rates remain fair. We can’t do it all, and your feedback helps us figure out what’s most important to you.”

Next, councillors will meet on 30 October to review your feedback and decide which key areas need further investigation. From there, Council staff will explore different options, considering the potential impacts on rates, debt, and levels of service. Once these options have been developed, we’ll continue talking with you from late March to late April 2025 during a consultation period, as we work together to shape the 2025-2034 Long Term Plan.
