Huntly Community Board looking for a new member in by-election

The Huntly Community Board is holding an extraordinary by-election, following the resignation of a member.

Nominations for the vacant position open today.

The role of the community board is to express the community’s views on local issues to Council.

Waikato District Council Chief Executive Gavin Ion says community boards play a very important role and help make their community’s voice heard.

“Community boards give a voice to local issues and local people to Council.”

Mr Ion encourages people who are passionate about Huntly to put their name forward.

"It is a great opportunity to contribute to Council’s vision of creating liveable, thriving and connected communities."

The by-election, governed by section 120 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, will be undertaken by postal vote. One member position on the Huntly Community Board is available for election during this process.

Candidates must be nominated by two electors whose names appear on the electoral roll for the Huntly Community Board, and nominations must be made on the appropriate official nomination paper.

Nomination papers are available from Council’s Huntly and Ngaaruawaahia offices, by phoning 0800 492 452 or via Council’s website.

Nominations must be received before midday, 21 October 2024.
