Tyre drop-off day coming to Te Kowhai

If you have any unwanted tyres hanging around at your place, head over to Te Kowhai School on Saturday 6 July and drop them off for recycling.

Waikato District Council has partnered with Waikato-based tyre-recycling company, Treadlite New Zealand, to hold this event while promoting environmental sustainability by encouraging responsible disposal and recycling of used tyres.

All that is asked for in return is a koha to Te Kowhai School, but there are limited spots available.

The initiative aligns with Council’s efforts of fostering cleaner communities by reducing the environmental impact of tyres ending up in landfill by recycling and repurposing used tyres.

Council’s Waste Minimisation Officer, Ogechi Okoro describes the event as a great chance for residents to properly dispose of tyres from their own yards.

“The council is dedicated to environmental sustainability, and this event contributes to our goal of increasing diversion from landfills.”

Only a maximum of 10 tyres per customer can be accepted. Tyres need to be clean and their rims must be removed. Commercial and tractor tyres cannot be accepted.

The tyre collection event will be held at Te Kowhai School, 605 Horotiu Road, 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 6 July.

With limited spots available, please register your interest for the event by filling out a form.
