This birthday celebration went to the dogs!

A generous donation by 10-year-old Leah has got tails wagging at Waikato District Council’s dog pound.

Leah’s family adopted a dog called Pablo about a year ago, and Leah wanted to do something nice for the other dogs being cared for by Council’s Animal Control team.

So, instead of having a birthday party, Leah decided to use the party money to buy some toys and donate them to the Waikato Pound Pups.

Leah took some of her friends to pick out toys and then delivered them personally to the pound.

“We are so grateful for such a kind gesture from such a sweet girl and her family,” says Animal Control Education and Engagement Officer Zoey Jackson. “The pound pups adored all the goodies they received.”

The Animal Control team made sure Leah went home with a goodie bag filled with treats.

They have also named one of the pups in their care after Leah. Leah the pup will be up for adoption soon. All dogs available for adoption are advertised on the Waikato Pound Pups Facebook page.
