Raglan wharf is set to undergo a major transformation in the coming year and locals are being invited on a walking tour to learn more about the improvements and give their feedback.
Raglan Community Board member Dennis Amoore says it is the perfect opportunity for residents to ask any questions they may have about the projects and share their thoughts.
“This is an exciting time for Whāingaroa with some big improvements to the wharf in the pipeline. We want to make sure all community members have the chance to find out more about these projects and have their say.
“We’d love to see as many people as possible pop down to the wharf and join us.”
The improvements will be carried out in the coming year and include repairs to strengthen the existing structure, a new pontoon, an eastern and western walkway, a new look for the wharf including a balustrade, and a plan for the future development of the harbour.
Construction is expected to start in mid-2022 and take around eight months to complete.
Waikato District Council Community Connections manager Megan May says before spades can get into the ground, Council is seeking feedback from locals about the projects.
“We’ve developed two options for the western walkway, and we need to you let us know which is your preferred option.
“We are also creating a plan for the future of the harbour and also like to hear from people about what is important to them.”
Raglan Ward Councillor Lisa Thomson says signs have been erected at the wharf to illustrate what improvements such as the balustrade could look like.
“If you can’t make it to the tour then I encourage you to head down to the wharf when you get a chance and check out the signage.
“The images paint a very exciting picture of what we have in mind for improvements to the wharf.”
Residents can have their say on the projects at shape.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/
Hardcopy surveys are also available from the Raglan Library and Council Office on Bow Street or from Soul Shoes at the wharf.
Feedback closes at 5pm on Monday 20 December.
