One of the playgrounds on Huntly Domain is due for an upgrade, and Waikato District Council wants to know what the community wants to see in the new and improved version.
Council has a budget of $150,000 to revamp the playground by the Huntly Aquatic Centre.
The project team has come up with two concept designs which will be on display at a Tell Us What You Want Huntly Engagement Day on Thursday 22 October.
The team will be visiting primary schools and early childhood education centres in the morning and then they will be at Huntly Library from 2.30pm to 6pm.
Everyone in the community is encouraged to come down to the library in the afternoon to share their ideas and thoughts on the concept designs.
“The kids in the morning will be invited to choose their preferred layout option and choose from a list of options what sort of equipment they would like to play on in the playground,” says Council’s Community Connections Manager, Megan May.
“It’s crucial we gather the thoughts of the kids as they will be the ones enjoying the new playground once it’s ready to go.”
Once all the option choices are evaluated by the project team, they will determine which suggested features can be incorporated into the budget and will settle on a final design, which will be shared with the community.
“We’d obviously like to get in as much stuff that the community wants but we do have a budget we need to stick to.
“We look forward to a fun day out with the locals and taking on board what they think makes up a top-notch playground.”
The new playground is due to be installed in March.
