We are entering difficult times and I want to update you about what we're doing in regards to COVID-19.
Waikato District Council has been working on making sure our key services can continue through these times.
We have today announced all community facilities are to close. This decision was difficult but essential. Our community and our country's health must come first. Our facilities are a very important part of what makes the district such wonderful place to live. It's time for the community and the country to band together to slow the spread of COVID-19.
We are working with Waikato District Health Board on locations for community-based assessment centres within our communities. We will be able to share more information on where these will be in the coming days.
I would encourage those who are stockpiling food and goods to be considerate of others who have also got families to feed and can't get essentials because of hoarding. We are a country that has more than adequate food and supplies.
This is the time where we need to continue to support our elderly and vulnerable people. I urge you to be aware of maintaining a distance from people while out and about. Keep yourselves safe, look after each other and keep an eye on your neighbours. We need to work together.
Make sure you get the latest information from covid19.govt.nz. If you have concerns about your health, phone Healthline on 0800 358 5453 or phone your GP.
