Some of our libraries will be closed for one day in October

Some of our libraries will be closed for one day in October as we install new mobile shelves to make the spaces more functional and user-friendly.

The closure dates are:
• Raglan Library and Council Office – Monday 16 October
• Te Kauwhata Library and Council Office – Tuesday 17 October
• Ngaruawahia Library – Wednesday 18 October
• Tuakau Library – Thursday 19 October.

“This upgrade is part of our planned work programme,” says Customer Delivery Manager Angela Parquist.

“The new shelving will allow us to accommodate different activities and different spaces in our libraries. It will make the spaces much more useful. ”

It’s been a long time since we replaced the shelving.

“In most cases it’s been about 15 years.  Some of the current shelving has imperial measurements so it can’t be aligned with the new metric shelving.  Where we can, we’re re-using some of the old shelving, and the rest of the usable shelves will be donated to community groups.”

If anyone is interested in getting some of the shelving, please contact Cheryl Maskell by phoning (07) 824-5905.

We’re trying to give people as much notice about the closures as possible.  Posters are up at the different sites and our staff are advising our customers.  We’ve ensured that only one library will be closed at a time so if people do need to visit on that day they can visit one of the other libraries and branches.

Huntly Library is not on the schedule because it received new shelving when it was refurbished last year, Meremere will be getting a new library in the new year so we will be replacing the shelving then.  The closures will not impact our Ngaruawahia office.
