Given this demand, Council is proposing to add Kowhai Reserve to the Dog Control Bylaw as an off-lead dog exercise area. It also plans to reintroduce Centennial Park, on the corner of Bollard Road and Park Avenue, to the bylaw as an off-lead dog exercise area following its removal in 2014/15.
“The park was removed because some members of the community suggested that the park was too close to a busy road, it was too small and also too close to a children’s play area,” says Animal Control Team Leader, Megan May. “However no other suitable areas were identified at the time to replace it. Since then, we’ve had an overwhelming level of interest and support to reinstate the park as an off-lead exercise area.”
“If Centennial Park is reinstated as an off-lead area, fencing of the children’s play area will occur.”
