The opening of a new recycling and refuse drop-off facility for North Waikato residents in Tuakau has been delayed.
Last week Waikato District Council announced that the facility run by Smart Environmental at 100c Industry Lane, Tuakau would open on 20 February.
Due to the need to increase the scope of services currently permitted under the site’s resource consent, a new resource consent process needs to be undertaken.
General Manager Service Delivery Tim Harty says Council acknowledges that its announcement was premature and it needs to complete the correct consenting process.
“We are working through the process of sorting out these issues with our partner, Smart Environmental and will do so as quickly as possible,” says Mr Harty.
“We understand the frustration that the delay may cause and we apologise to residents for the inconvenience caused.”
It was announced last week that due to the introduction of the Tuakau facility, monthly collections at Pukekawa, Onewhero and Glen Murray have ceased.
At this stage, this is still the case.
North Waikato residents will be updated on a new opening date for the Tuakau facility as soon as the resource consent issues have been worked through.
