Tuakau Bridge painting put on hold

The painting of the bridge was always going to be a complex job due to the nature of the structure, the need to keep it open at all times and to ensure the safety of both users and contractors.

Despite trying a number of innovative methods to get the work completed before the wet weather set in, Council was unable to achieve that goal.

“While we know it is frustrating to see the work still not completed, our contractors tried everything they could to get the bridge repainted,” General Manager Service Delivery, Tim Harty says.

“While we are disappointed we couldn’t get this work done when we said it would be done, we do have to consider the quality of the work that would have taken place given the amount of rainfall the area has experienced lately. Environmental risks from painting in winter was also a key factor in deciding to suspend the work.”

Work will now resume in late September, weather dependant.
