Staff representing over 68 libraries from around New Zealand attended the LIANZA Weekend School conference held at Raglan over the weekend. The LIANZA (Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) event is held annually at a different location each year. Its aim is to enable librarians and other literary enthusiast to come together and share their professional learnings – from technology to services.
The conference opened last Friday 20 May with a powhiri welcome for the guests at Raglan Library, followed by speeches and then kai provided by the library. Speakers included Waikato District Councillor, Clint Baddeley and LIANZA representatives.
The conference itself was held at the Raglan Town Hall, which was made up to resemble a warm and inviting ‘living room’ where people might curl up with a good book. Poihakena Marae provided catering for the conference.
Those attending came from as far away as Christchurch. The event was a great opportunity for all to share their knowledge, ideas and challenges associated with providing comprehensive library services while also getting a sense of what the Raglan Library and its staff offer the local community.
