Today, Foster Develop (Fosters) and Waikato District Council signed an agreement marking a significant step in Tamahere residents’ vision for their local area.
The agreement is for a “Commercial Hub” of boutique retail outlets to be located on the corner of Devine Road and Wiremu Tamihana Drive. The hub results from combined Council and Tamahere community efforts over the past few years.
Waikato District Mayor, Allan Sanson is pleased to see the project coming to fruition.
“The late Tamahere Ward Councillor Wally Pollock, along with former Waikato District Council Chief Executive, Warwick Bennett were involved in the early days of the land purchase.
“It is fantastic to see this development has evolved with input from a wide range of people, including current Councillor Wally Hayes, and I’m excited to think what this area will look like in the future.
“Over the years the community has invested significantly in it and by all accounts the hub will meet their needs and expectations,” he says.
Connected to the Tamahere Reserve via a central courtyard, the hub is expected to provide a meeting place for locals. Plans for the reserve, which is already under construction, provide for playing fields, a skate park, a playground and a fitness trail.
Tony McLauchlan, Fosters’ Development Manager, says this is a significant opportunity for their company to work on this hugely anticipated project.
“As a local company, Foster Develop is proud of its history and connection to the Waikato. Securing the ability to develop the area in Tamahere presents us with another great opportunity to work with locals and local business to provide an exciting and vibrant space for Tamahere residents to enjoy.”
A working group of Tamahere Community Committee members, Fosters and Council staff has been established to secure delivery of the overall vision for Tamahere residents.
