ANZAC Day services 2024

ANZAC Day honours our returned servicemen and women, and others who have died in conflicts and peace-keeping efforts around the world. 

Below is information about the services being held in the Waikato District for on ANZAC Day, Thursday 25 April 2024. We ask that you please arrive early and allow time to find a park.

Ngaaruawaahia

Dawn service: Either go straight to the Field of Remembrance on Great south Road at 5.45am or go the Fire Station at 5.30am ready to march to the Field of Remembrance at 5.45am. Service will start at 6am.  After the service the community is invited back to the Ngaaruawaahia RSA for a light breakfast.

Civic service: 10.45am seated for 11am start. Ngaaruawaahia War Memorial Hall, Galileo St. Following the service, a march to The Point Cenotaph where you are invited to attend the laying of the wreaths. Guests can then march back to the Ngaaruawaahia RSA (Market St) for a light lunch. 

Eureka

Please arrive at 9.45am for the service at 10am at the Cenotaph, Eureka Hall, 1298 State Highway 26, followed by morning tea in the hall.

Gordonton

Dawn service at 6am at the Cenotaph, Gordonton Hall, 1024 Gordonton ROAd (SH1B), followed by morning tea in the hall.

Huntly

From 5:30am people can gather at Huntly RSA, 42 William StREET and at 5.45am there will be a march to the Cenotaph in Wight Street for a service at 6am.

Parade will return to the RSA at 7:15am and leave the RSA to muster for service at Kimihia Cemetery at 7.30am.

A free breakfast for the community will be held at the Huntly RSA at 8.30am. Sponsored by the Huntly RSA.

Maramarua

Please assemble at the cenotaph on Monument Road at 8.45am for a 9am start.  If raining, will be held at the Maramarua Hall.

Mercer

A commemorative ceremony at dawn (6am), located at the Mercer Turret, 9 Roose ROAd (in front of the old Mercer Fire Station).

Otaua

Special Event – Short ceremony being held at 2pm for the unveiling and dedication of WW1 Roll of Honour.  Please assemble at 1.45pm.  Afternoon tea to follow in Otaua Hall, Maioro Road, Otaua.

Pookeno

The parade will begin at 9.00am, with assembly near the railway line at 1 Market Road, march along Market Rd to the Cenotaph for the service, and onto morning tea in the Pookeno Hall.

Port Waikato

A morning service will be held at the Port Waikato Fire Brigade at 9am.

Raglan

Raglan ANZAC Day service will be held at 11am at the Cenotaph, Bow Street, Raglan.

Te Kauwhata

Dawn service: 5.45am Assemble outside the Lions RSA Hall, 42 Mahi Rd, Te Kauwhata (800m). Veterans, and seniors can join the parade from outside Motuls Garage (200m) along the way. Service commences from approx 6am at the Te Kauwhata Memorial 10 Saleyard Rd.

Waerenga Gunfire Breakfast: 7.45am at the Waerenga Cemetery, Keith Road, Waerenga. A short remembrance service is followed by a traditional Gunfire Breakfast on the roadside.

Civil service: 10.30am assemble outside the Lions RSA Hall, 42 Mahi Road, Te Kauwhata (800m). Veterans, and seniors can join the parade from outside Motuls Garage (200m) along the way. 11am service commences at Te Kauwhata Memorial at 10 Saleyard Road.

At the end of the Civic Service, the parade will march to the bottom of the Te Kauwhata War Memorial Domain where you are invited to lay your poppy. This will be followed by a light lunch at the Te Kauwhata Lions RSA Hall.

Tuakau

The parade will take place at 11.15am, starting at the Tuakau Cosmopolitan Club, walking down Madill Street, turning left onto George Street, past Central Park to the Tuakau Town Hall
